Westpac Bank Partners With IBM to Use SoftLayer Private Cloud Computing Services

Westpac Bank will transform its entire existing legacy banking systems to IBM’s private cloud computing services to make them modern, secure and efficient.

westpacGREATRESPONDER.COM – This was announced by IBM Corporation NZ today on Thursday August 21, 2014 that it has bagged a five year contract with New Zealand’s top bank for upgrading its digital banking systems by utilizing the private cloud computing infrastructure of IBM’s SoftLayer Company. The statement further elaborated that this contract is includes up gradation and migration of many digital services of the bank to the IBM cloud computing infrastructure based in Auckland data center of the company.

It was further informed in the statement that the modern IT infrastructure of the bank would be able to support many features, capabilities and online banking services of the bank based on the private cloud computing platform. Westpac Bank plans to run mobile banking services and many other digital banking services influenced by the trend on the social media and other form of modern communication. The bank is planning to run many online services based on the IBM cloud computing infrastructure to offer high level of security, reliability, scalability of the services on multiple platforms and devices such as, mobile, tablets, laptops, desktops and others. The single ID user access, and identity management is being enforced with the help of IBM cloud infrastructure to make the services more robust and secure.

“IBM’s private cloud platform would further enable increased development of Westpac’s digital capabilities as it responds to customer demands for a more personalized, convenient way of banking. The platform provides a robust and advanced infrastructure enabling a seamless online banking experience across multiple devices. This supports our goal of being New Zealand’s leading digital bank” says the interim CIO of Westpac bank, Mr. Jason Millett. He further added that, “In addition, IBM’s local and global expertise, commitment to work within our regulatory framework, deep knowledge of our business and industry, and responsive commercial models provide a market leading offering that can support our changing needs over time.”
